Today’s Staff spotlight is on Brandon Sturges. He is a middle/high school teacher here at UNPS, teaching  multiple subjects. His hobbies include working out/ exercising, hanging out with his family, especially his two daughters. He also loves watching movies and reading comic books. His favorite sport is football. The reason he likes football is because he played in high school and also played a year in college. He said, “There are a lot of life skills going into the game, and it teaches you how to take a loss/ failure and how to get over it.” Mr. Sturges likes working here because of his co-workers and the students, especially the culture here at Umonhon Nation.
He's from Sioux City, and there was not a lot of Native culture there. This is his first year working here at Umonhon Nation, but he's been working for about 6-7 years. He likes working here because of the flexibility here: by that he means he gets to teach anything he wants; he likes that no one tells him what to do. His favorite places to visit are big cities; he has visited cities in several states including New York and Florida, among others. He likes places where it's warm, because he doesn't like cold weather. He soon wants to visit Ireland. He said he’s planning on working here until life takes him somewhere else. His vision for the tribe is that the Umonhon Nation staff and students will grow as a community, and he would like to help shape minds of the students here, and also help the students get more into the community.
